Oct 8th 2008 - Version 7.0.9 Release Candidate 1
- Overview: This release includes more than 200 changes. Highlights are an improved web interface (with support for IE8, Chrome & Safari browsers), new sensors for VMware servers and an improved reporting engine.
- Beta-Status: V7.0.9 is available as release candidate, the release version is scheduled for Oct. 15th 2008
- New: Support for additional browsers
- Added support for Apple Safari 3.1 and Google Chrome (Webkit engine)
- Added support for Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2
- Note 1: The officially recommended browser for PRTG still is Firefox 3.0.
- Note 2: Google Chrome is currently the fastest browser for PRTG.
- New: Reporting Improvements
- Reports now include more computed information about each sensor
- Averages
- Totals (for traffic sensors)
- Uptime/downtime (total and percent)
- Good and failed requests (total and percent)
- Users can now run a report for any custom time span
- Improved report layout
- User can select papersize of PDF files (A4, legal, letter)
- Printing of HTML reports now works on IE, Firefox, Safari and Chrome
- Improved page breaks in reports, removed empty last page from reports
- HTML reports now open in a new window
- New: Improved web interface
- "Clone Group" function duplicates a group with all subgroups, devices and sensors
- Devices and groups can be "Folded" and "Unfolded"
- Sensor tree remembers "view" setting (S, M, L, XL)
- Objects in the sensor tree display an "edit" link when hovered which takes the user directly to their edit page
- Improved layout for object settings
- Improved menu structure
- Cross reference and "Top 10" lists are now also available on group level
- Sensors with alarm status are shown on red background in tables
- Web browser optionally plays an alarm sound if the number of sensors with "error" state is larger than zero

- Objects shown in maps can be filtered with tags (see map settings page)
- Timezone for a map can be set by the user

- New: "Change" trigger type sends notifications whenever the monitoring
target changes (for WMI File sensor and HTTP Advanced sensor)
- New: Custom EXE sensors now support DLLs
- New: Custom EXE sensors can now report "warning" states
- New: Unusual detection can be enabled/disabled on group level
- Changed: New sensors are created when autodiscovery rediscoveres a device and finds ports that had been inactive before
- Changed: For SQL sensors the returned value now is primary channel (which means that it is now used for warnings/alarms)
- Changed: Windows 2000 is no longer supported as operating system for the core and probe

- Changed: Updated cache file version number (=> after upgrading the graph data cache will be recomputed in the background)

- Overview: This release includes a faster web interface, the first version of the PRTG API, an improved map editor, an iPhone-optimized user interface and a probe installer for faster remote probe updates and many more improvements
- New: Improved map editor
- Map items can now be resized
- Content and template of the map items can now be edited
- User can add own HTML code to add titles, comments or even images (e.g. a data center webcam) to a map
- New: Improved CSS and HTML
- Pages now use the full
browser window where useful
- New design uses fewer graphics for faster page
loads

- This is the first incarnation of the API, more improvements will be available soon
- API allows access to PRTG's monitoring results

- Allows read-only access to monitoring results for Apple iPhone users
- Your PRTG installation must be accesible from the Internet
- Access it with
your iPhone at the URL https://yourserver/iphone (where yourserver is
the IP or DNS name of your PRTG installation)
- Using HTTPS is recommended to
secure credentials, but HTTP can also be used

- New: "Probe Only" installer
- Provides faster distribution of the probe installer (only 4
MB) whenever a new software version is installed on the core server
- Can be downloaded on probe computer by accessing PRTG's web interface (see item "Downloads"
of the "Setup" menu).
- New: TEXTLIST Interface
- PRTG 7 supports IPCheck Server Monitor 5's "TEXTLIST" interface
- This means that custom PHP scripts written by IPCheck 5 users now work with PRTG 7
- Also, the Windows Mobile User Interface of IPCheck Server Monitor will now work with PRTG 7
- This feature is provided for easier upgrades only and should be considered deprecated (it will not be developed further)

- New: Sensors, devices and groups can now be paused for 5/15/60/180
minutes or one day (e.g. for maintenance or a reboot). Choose "Resume"
to start monitoring before the scheduled pause is over.
- New: Improved wording for Notifications (e.g. the subject now shows "UP" instead of "Downstate Ended")
- New: Added a less sensitive default setting for the unusual detection
- New: Graphs now display the primary channel's minimum and maximum values
- New: Live graphs show a red dot for failed requests
- New: Added sensor type "SNMP System Uptime" which monitors a SNMP device's uptime
- New: Non-admin users are no longer able to see any system administration links and pages in the web-based UI
- New: Improved handling of "read only" access rights for users

- New: "Clone Device" function duplicates a server with all settings
- New: "Zoom Table": Most data tables now offer a zoom icon that expands the table to full size in a new browser window
- New: "Compare" function enables the user to compare 48h/30d/365d graphs of two groups/devices/sensors
- New: "Quick Login": Added a "use default login" option to the login window (only when default login parameters prtgadmin/prtgadmin are used)
- New: Improved context menus use cascading menus for faster and easier navigation
- New: "Dashboard 2": Alternate dashboard layout

- Bugfix: Some WMI sensors showed red error states after a certain navigation path between the pages of sensors, devices and groups
- Bugfix: URLs with more than one parameter (e.g. the Alarms page) were not stored correctly as "My Homepage"
- Bugfix: Postdata for HTTP notification was not being transmitted
- Bugfix: Some WMI sensors sporadically showed incorrect "No data" messages when down
- Bugfix: Report PDF files were still stored in default folder when data file location for the core was changed within the Core Admin Tool
- Bugfix: Remote Probes with Packet Sniffing sensors sometimes crashed upon reconnection after the initial connection to the core was dropped for a few minutes

- Overview: This version mainly covers bugfixes based on user feedback
- Changed: Community password is now stored in an encrypted format (in configuration XML file)
- Changed: Improved web server initialization code for handling of IP/port bindings that
manages already occupied IP/port combinations better. User can now select only one TCP Port setting.
- Bugfix: On some systems WMI Traffic Sensors had trouble with counter rollovers
- Bugfix: In some installations probes stopped working (due to a bug in the Packet Sniffing Sensors)
- Bugfix: Notification settings were lost when editing particular sensors
- Bugfix: Various import issues
- Bugfix: Limit error/warning states display was being delayed

- Overview: This version covers a number of bugfixes that are based on user feedback
- New: Import process writes its logfile to the disk for later review
- Changed: Published Maps now use the faster PNG-based graphs instead of Flash-based graphs
- Bugfix: Custom EXE sensors are not fully compatible with IPCheck Custom EXE sensors
- Bugfix: In some situations the Import process did not import historic sensor data
- Bugfix: Some users experienced an error message when they tried to add a new user
- Bugfix: Some users experienced a crash when starting the service (only when SQL sensors were configured)
