How to update to the latest version of PRTG Traffic Grapher

We have been asked quite a number of times what the proper procedure for updating PRTG is.

If you are updating (moving to a higher edition of the same major version, e.g. V6.0 to V6.1) then the answer is quite simple: merely install the newer release over the existing installation. The installer itself will prompt to shut down the GUI and will automatically stop the service while updating. All configuration and historic data should be retained.

We do, however, highly recommend backing up your sensitive data. The article linked below explains what is considered sensitive data as regards PRTG:
